Studio Policies


Students are expected to be ready for their lessons. This means arriving early dressed and ready before entering dance class. Students should warm up and stretch at least 10 to 15 minutes before a lesson or rehearsal begins. No sitting unless instructed to do so or given permission due to injury.No gum, food or drinks are permitted in the dance studios or dressing rooms. Any student who repeatedly disrupts the class will be dismissed from class.

Tardiness - Students arriving late are not permitted to walk into an ongoing class. Late students should ask the teacher for permission to the class by waiting just inside the classroom door. 



Time for tots -  Leotard, tights, pink ballet and black tap shoes. Hair pulled back, out of face.

Creative Movement -  Leotard, tights, pink ballet and black tap shoes. Hair pulled back, out of face.

Ballet - Leotard, tights, ballet shoes, and hair pulled back out of face (bun preferably)

Lyrical - Leotard, tights or leggings or shorts, half soles (no baggy clothing)

Jazz - Leotard, tights or leggings or shorts,, half soles (no baggy clothing)

Tap - Athletic wear, black tap shoes (no baggy clothing)

Hip Hop -  Clean tennis shoes and athletic wear (No big sweatshirts)

Boys - Athletic wear and appropriate dance shoes for class



Tuition is to be paid by the 1st of each month.  It will be considered late after the 15th and a $15.00 late fee will be automatically added.  If tuition is not paid before the 1st of the next month, your child will be refused admission to class.  

Throughout the year the number of lessons per month varies. (3, 4, 5, lessons)  Tuition will remain the same each month. We operate on 10-month season, September thru June. Allowing 40 lessons which averages 4 classes per month. NO REFUNDS will be issued due to withdrawing from classes.



Motion Works Dance does not carry medical insurance for its students. It is required that all dance students be covered by their own family insurance policies and if an injury occurs, it is understood that the student’s own policy is your only source of reimbursement.



The studio will follow Lewis Central Public Schools on class cancellation for bad weather. We will send an email 3:00 p.m. on whether classes will be held or not. Motion Works reserves the right to cancel classes at our discretion. We will not put any child in danger due to weather.



We will be closed Halloween (Oct 31), Thanksgiving (Nov. 25-30), Winter Break (Dec. 22-Jan 5), Spring Break (March 16- March 21), Costume Week (March 23-27) and Memorial Day (May 25).



Students/children may not be left unsupervised in the lobby.  It is the parent’s responsibility to get their child to the studio before class and to pick them up after class. All children aged 7 and younger must be walked in and out of the studio by a parent.



Use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, blogging and other social media outlets is commonplace.  This policy is intended to provide Motion Works parents and students guidelines for the use of social media.

    •    You do not have permission to reveal any information that compromises Motion Works Dance.  By that we mean the sharing of personal information about the director, staff, students and/or their families or any proprietary and/or confidential information is strictly prohibited.

    •    Students and parents should neither claim nor imply that they are speaking on behalf of Motion Works Dance.

    •    Use discretion when posting pictures, including those of other students. Obey copyright laws.

    •    Never post anything that could compromise self-esteem of other students.

    •    Respect the law, including those laws governing defamation, discrimination, harassment, copyright and fair use.  Parents and students should never post negative comments about other schools, teachers, or events, including competitions, conventions and performances. 




May 29 & 30th, 2020- Rehearsals will be on Friday and possibly some Thursday night.  All students MUST attend all rehearsals (staging and dress) to be able to perform in Recital shows - Shows will be on Saturday.  If we need to add an additional show it will be a Sunday matinee.



Please be a good role model and keep it positive!  Negative or inappropriate language and/or behavior will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal of both parent and/or student from Motion Works Dance. Please communicate concerns sooner rather than later by contacting the studio to make an appointment.  Dance teachers are not to be interrupted before, during or in between classes.  Every effort will be made to address your concerns in a timely manner.



Classes with less than five students may be cancelled, combined, or rescheduled at Motion Works Dance’s discretion.



Motion Works Dance is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables. If your item has been misplaced please check out Lost & Found. Items must be claimed in person. Every 30 days, unclaimed items are given to a local charity.



By entering the studio, visitors/students consent to be photographed, recorded and/or filmed by Motion Works Dance and to have the photographs/recording/film reproduced and used for internal, security, and promotional purposes.
